Gift Aid

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme from HM Revenue & Customs that allows us to reclaim an extra 20 per cent on your donations made for the past four years as well as all future donations – without costing you a penny. This means that for every pound you pay in subscriptions or other payments to Gateway, we get an extra 20p.  The effect to Gateway group is significant and helps us fund all the activities for your kids.  Please sign up if you can :-)

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for Gift Aid, you must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that you donate to will reclaim on your donations for that tax year. Taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. This also applies if you pay tax on your savings, pension plan or investment income.

Are you a higher rate taxpayer?

There is an extra benefit for higher rate taxpayers as you are able to reclaim tax on the amount you have donated. We, as a charity, can claim the basic rate of tax on the value of your gift, and you can reclaim the difference between higher rate (40 per cent) and basic rate tax (20 per cent).

Just provide details of your Gift Aid donations on your tax return or self-assessment form.

How can I Gift Aid?

All we need from you is a single Gift Aid declaration which will cover your future subscriptions and subscriptions you have made in the past four years.

To make your declaration, please print the Gift Aid Declaration, complete it and pass it to your section leader.

Please remember to inform us if you have changed your name and address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains tax by emailing fundraising@scouts.org.uk
